Give
BY MELISSA NIU
They saw them pass
One by one.
And not even acknowledge
The saddened man
Along the street
Lying by the garbage.
His tattered clothes
Missing shoes
With signs of alcohol,
He had no friend,
No bed, no home,
Just shelter by the wall.
Naomi, Charli
And Livy too
Went close to where he rested,
And watched him hang,
His head so low,
And read what he requested.
“How can I help?
I am so small
And only have one cent?”
And if I give,
What will he do,
And how will it be spent?”
But little Naomi
Looked again
As a tear came from his eye.
“This is a human
He is special
Just like you and I. “
Charli and Liv
Boosted her up
As she pulled out her one cent.
They struggled so hard
To do their part
And into the hat it went.
It wasn’t much,
It wasn’t a lot,
But it’s all that they could do,
I’m sure you’d hope,
That someone else,
Would do the same for you.
But when you have
The chance to give
Remember what they learned.
True joy came
From when they gave
And expected nothing in return.
